Junior Tennis

The Junior Tennis Program at Palisades got underway the summer of 1994 by tennis enthusiast Boots Duesing and several Park members. After soliciting donations from members, Boots created a few clinics for kids and eventually hired Doug Gruber on a part-time basis to run two summer tournaments. Doug taught the kids how to play tennis and more importantly how to display good sportsmanship. Boots immediately saw the program’s potential and hired Doug full-time with the support of the Junior Tennis Patrons and the program was off and running.

By 2001, program participation had grown so much that an assistant was needed, and Dave Zimmermann was brought on board to assist Doug. Dave saw tremendous opportunity in the “toddler to kindergarten” ages and developed a very successful early tennis program. Today it is one of the most attended clinics. The Junior Tennis Program has become a treasured tradition in Palisades.
In 2009, with Boots’ blessing, Mark Stephens began managing the program, followed by Bob Zimmermann in 2020 and Heather Garrison in 2023.   The program continues to incorporate the same philosophies - sportsmanship, fundamentals, hard work, and lots of fun!

The Junior Tennis Program offers clinics for children aged 3 thru 18. It is the only daily organized activity provided for children aged 4 to 18. The popularity of the program is reflected in the turnout at the clinics, which average 40 to 45 players per day over 4 clinics.

The Junior Tennis program is completely supported by the generous contributions from Park members, renters, and guests (Park Member dues are not used to support the program). Contributions are used to cover Coach and assistant salaries, tennis balls, tournament medals and ribbons, and tournament lunches. Please help keep this program strong...
  • Make a financial contribution of any amount.
  • Help pick up balls during lessons. A great way to meet new friends!
  • Help with tournaments. There’s plenty to do!
Share any ideas you may have. We’d like to hear from you!
